Are you my Mommy?

The poor little whelp had a bit of trouble finding his parents.  So, we flew off to the Nexus.

Pet Causes

May 6, 2011 at 1:00 am (Vanity Pets)

The release of the Cenarion Hatchling pet from the Blizzard store has caused quite a stir.  Originally, the pet was obtained through a rare TCG loot code, and was virtually unobtainable anymore.  However, now the folks over at Blizzard have decided to sell the pet, without a reskin, and have 100% of the price go to the American Red Cross’s Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami relief efforts.  I appriciate the change that the folks in California made from the last cause related pet, the Pandaren Monk, who saw 50% of the proceeds going to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.  However, I do have a problem with the devs basically watering down the efforts (and real money spent in many cases) of individuals to acquire the pet.  I understand that they had something that cost them no real money (which in some ways cheapens Blizzard’s contribution) and ready to go, but I find it hard to believe that they don’t have a couple of pets kept “in waiting” that they could use.  Or, perhaps, they just wanted to profit over these pets – I don’t mind that, but don’t then pretend that you’ve donated some great cause in time and effort – I imagine it took about 15 man-hours to get the pet into the store and set up a special accounting for the cash spent.

Next time, perhaps they could find a more appropriate pet?  I think that a small water elemental (or crashing wave) would have been far better for the Tsunami relief.  Perhaps they could come up with a small air elemental for aid to the tornado victims in the South?

Rusty’s Problem

January 11, 2010 at 5:00 am (Achievements, Mounts, Vanity Pets)

My name is Rustbeard, and I’m a collect-a-holic.

Hi Rustbeard!

When I started down my huntering path some time ago, I discovered that many my pets could find a little furry companion that sort of looked like them.  And I thought, “Hey, even my pet should have a friend.”  So I found them.  I mean, even my long forgotten snow cat had a pal in the little kitty I took … ah, bought from Little Timmy.  But that was it.  I had it under control.

One Turkey of a Holiday

November 23, 2009 at 6:14 pm (Holidays, Vanity Pets) (, )

Bugged Holidays annoy the crap out of me. I don’t really know why, because it seems every time Blizzard creates a new festival of some sort, an important part of the meta-achievement is screwed up and it takes 24-48 hours to fix. I should just expect it by now. It often becomes a time crunch for me. Given that I work out of town from my family, I’m often home over the holidays, and when I’m home, I play little if at all. So, Sunday was my day to accomplish as much as possible, but the Echo Isle server had bugs in the feasts at both Stormwind and Darnassus. Combine that with everyone hunting turkeys at the same time was a recipe for frustration. As of 4am this morning, I managed to kill enough turkeys to get the achievement, but the chairs still hadn’t been fixed with a pending server shutdown. Since I fly out very, very late tonight, I don’t expect to get back on to see if they’ve been updated properly. And I was so looking forward to vanity pet number 77. For those wondering the best turkey path for the Alliance – take the road west out of Goldshire and stick to either the north or south – kill one and start running further down the road, there’ll be one there if someone hasn’t broken the chain. Either side of the road seems to work.

Unfortunately, I let that level of frustration spill over into my Wow time in general, so I played somewhat less than I was able (which wasn’t much). Don’t get me wrong, the break was good, as I used the time to get packed and clean up a few outstanding items on my calendar that I’d been postponing. As I’ll be away, a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. Wherever you are, take a moment to count your blessings, as will I (and it’s a blessing that anyone at all reads this).
